Artist insights

“As an animal artist, I’m drawn to animals emerging from shadow, where a little light can create a lot of drama. Haunted began as an Association of Animal Artists challenge using a brightly lit reference photo of an owl. I wanted to take it somewhere darker and moodier, emphasizing the owl’s haunting gaze. I created catchlights in its eyes reminiscent of moonlight filtering through trees. I love how changing the light can completely transform an animal’s presence, turning a beautiful creature into something mysterious and almost otherworldly.”
